A STORY OF SURVIVAL AND CHOICE
As a child, Dylan was small, shy, and often an easy target for bullies. At 12 years old, after a surgical complication, he lost 15 kilograms in just eight days and fought for his life.
His mother sat by his hospital bed. His father prayed. The outcome was uncertain.
When Dylan recovered, he made a decision. He would no longer be defined by fear, weakness, or circumstances beyond his control.
That moment became a turning point. Dylan committed to training at Titans MMA under his father’s guidance. The experience didn’t make him invincible, but it forged discipline, resilience, and determination to move forward.
Dylan doesn’t share his story for sympathy. He shares it as a reminder of why he shows up every day. What he survived did not define him. How he responded did.
A FATHER IN HIS CORNER
Titans MMA is built on hard work, focus, and growth. Dylan trains within that culture every day, known for pushing himself and respecting the process. Alongside him stands his father and coach, Riaan Pietersen. More than a trainer, Riaan is a steady guiding presence. Under his leadership, Titans MMA Paarl has become a home for young fighters rooted in values.
“My dad has always been my greatest supporter, both at home and in the gym. He pushes me when I’m tired, keeps me focused, and helps me reach my goals.”
Dylan’s success is the result of consistent work. He has earned multiple national and continental titles, international recognition, and a top world ranking in his division.
Each victory reflects intention and preparation. He fights to honour the work he and his father put in and to become better than he was yesterday.
Motivation comes from his family, his growing community of supporters, and the responsibility he feels to those who look up to him. Through initiatives like the Bully Busters campaign, Dylan uses his platform to encourage confidence and resilience in young people facing similar challenges.
In just five years, Dylan went from a near-fatal medical crisis to becoming Junior Kickboxing Champion of South Africa and Africa for multiple consecutive years. Even after a second major operation, he defied expectations and continued to rise.
In 2026, Dylan will represent South Africa on the world stage, a milestone built on years of disciplined training and unwavering belief.
“Representing South Africa is an incredible honour. I’m not just fighting for myself. I’m fighting with a nation behind me, and that pushes me to give everything I have.”
